What an Angel told St. Francis of Assisi:

“Setting aside prayer and devotion, they will turn, under the appearance of edifying their neighbor and saving souls, toward the knowledge that puffs up, toward the study of reading and the accumulation of a multitude of books. And because they will prefer words to virtues and knowledge to holiness, they will remain inwardly cold and empty of charity…”
