"Praised be Thou, my Lord"

Chapter 6

That the Brothers should appropriate nothing for themselves, neither house, nor place, nor anything else; but, as pilgrims and strangers in this world, serving the Lord in poverty and humility, let them go confidently to ask for alms. And they should not be ashamed of this, because the Lord made Himself poor for us in this world. This is the excellence of the most high Poverty, which has made you, my dearest Brothers, heirs and kings of the kingdom of heaven, made you poor in possessions, but raised you up in virtue. Let it therefore be your portion, She who leads to the land of the living. Cling to her completely, therefore, beloved Brothers, and, for the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ, never wish to possess anything else under heaven.

And wherever the Brothers may be or meet one another, let them show themselves to be servants to one another, and let them confidently make their needs known to one another; for if a mother nourishes and loves her son according to the flesh, with how much greater affection should each one love and nourish his Brother according to the spirit. And if any one of them should fall ill, the other Brothers must serve him as they would wish to be served themselves.
