"Praised be Thou, my Lord"

05 Sept - Blessed William

In the city of Sarmastro, Blessed William, a native of England, sealed his fervent preaching with his blood. When the Turks asked him what he and the other Christians thought of the Turks and of their prophet Muhammad, he replied:

I believe in Jesus Christ and in his Gospel, and all Christians are convinced that eternal damnation awaits the followers of Muhammad, who is an impostor."

Such a courageous confession immediately caused him to be bound in chains and thrown into prison. He was then dragged into the public square and handed over to the fury of the mob. He died overwhelmed by insults and blows, around the year 1334.
